Help Solver Murder of DNC Staffer Seth Rich
During a Monday afternoon press conference Mary and Joel Rich, the parents of murdered Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich, and GOP lobbyist Jack Burkman called on the media and public for help in solving the murder of Seth Rich. They vowed to not let his mysterious murder case go unsolved and announced a reward of $145,000. The Metropolitan Police Department posted its customary reward of $25,000 for information about the death. WikiLeaks offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to a conviction and Republican lobbyist Jack Burkman stated that he is offering $100,000 additional reward money.
The DNC Staff member, Seth Rich, was fatally shot twice in the back on July 10, 2016, in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington, D.C. He was a 27-year-old employee of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Police were alerted to gunfire at 4:20 am by an automated gunfire locator called ShotSpotter. Rich was found conscious but later died in the hospital. The police quickly announced it was a botched robbery — despite his wallet, iphone and watch not being stolen.
Since July there has been widespread outcry from many on various social networks for the police to investigate the possibility that Seth Rich might have been a Wikileaks informant and purposely murdered to keep him quiet or prevent further leaks. Julian Assange the founder of Wikileaks would not confirm Seth Rich as a source but did offer a 20K reward for any information leading to a conviction. The Wikileaks reward and subsequent publishing of DNC Emails by Wikileaks has lead many to believe that Seth had knowledge of or actually might of leaked the DNC emails to Wikileaks. No new leads have come in that the parents know of and no arrest has been made.
During the press conference, Mary Rich compared herself to a mother bear looking out for her cubs, saying she refuses to give up on the search. “My cub is dead, but that doesn’t mean anything. We will find his murderer,” she said. “But, we need all of you to help us bring his murderer or murderers to justice.”
The only additional details that were revealed by Mary Rich during the brief conference was that her son fought with two people in the early morning hours of July 10 and was fleeing the area when he was shot twice in the back. They believe whoever killed her son would have had bruises, cuts and possibly blood on their body following the struggle.
Mary and Joel Rich asked anyone who might have seen or heard anything to please contact the D.C. police. Any tip, no matter how insignificant or small it may seem could lead to this case being solved. Joel Rich went on to say “it will be up to the general public to help police solve the case.” He begged anyone who might have heard a rumor or knows someone connected to the case to get in touch with police. “We need help. We need people who knew what was going on,” he said. “We need your help from whoever can give the police some more information about what happened.”
Jack Burkman, said he is offering a $100,000 reward and got involved in the case because he remembered thinking back to his mother always telling him to be careful when he walked around Washington, D.C. approximately 30 years ago when he first moved to the city. While he thought her concerns were silly, he now realizes how devastating it must have been for Mary Rich to get the call his mother thankfully never did.
“This will never go into the cold case file, at least as long as I’m alive and as long as Mary and Joel are alive, this will go on and on and on,” Burkman said. “Planet Earth is only so big. It’s not a very big planet after all, and we will find the person or persons responsible for their son’s death. It’s just a matter of time.”
Seth was murdered on July 10th, and Wikileaks published the leaked DNC emails on July 22, 2016. This collection included 19,252 emails and 8,034 attachments from the DNC, the governing body of the United States’ Democratic Party. The leak includes emails from seven key DNC staff members, and date from January 2015 to May 2016. The leak prompted the resignation of DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz before the Democratic National Convention. After the convention, DNC CEO Amy Dacey, CFO Brad Marshall, and Communications Director Luis Miranda also resigned in the wake of the controversy. The leaked emails showed how the DNC conspired to help Hillary beat Bernie Sanders in the democratic primaries.
