President Elect Donald Trump announced today that RNC Chairman Reince Priebus will be his Chief of Staff and that Steve Bannon will be a Senior Advisor to the President.

Some may share their heads at this appointment since Reince is considered by many as a Washington insider, but he was one of the first to truly accept President Elect Trump as the Republican nominee and remained extremely loyal to him and his family throughout the campaign.  He was one of the first people, outside of his own family, that President Elect Trump thanked during his acceptance speech after winning the Presidency earlier this week.  The chief of staff oversees the Executive Office of the President (EOP) of the United States. This office was created in 1939 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and is responsible for a variety of critical functions in support of the president’s work and agenda. The original title, assistant to the president, was changed in 1961 to chief of staff.

The duties of the White House chief of staff vary, yet traditionally encompass the following,  select and supervise key White House staff, control access to the Oval Office and the president, manage communications and information flow, and negotiate with Congress, executive branch agencies, and external political groups to implement the president’s agenda.

In fulfilling these duties, the chief of Staff oversees and coordinates the efforts of the following offices within the EOP and White House Office: the Council of Economic Advisers, National Security staff, Office of Management and Budget, Office of Legislative Affairs, and Office of Management and Administration, to name a few.

Reinhold RichardReincePriebus was born March 18, 1972.  Reince is an American attorney and politician.  He has previously served as RNC general counsel, and is the former chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, where he is credited with helping to bring nationally known figures such as Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House, and Scott Walker, Governor of Wisconsin, into power on the state level and prominence on the national stage. Priebus married his wife, Sally, in 1999. The couple are high school sweethearts. They have two children.

Steve Bannon, who helped run the campaign, also has proven to be very loyal and has been rewarded with a senior strategist and advisor position.
