College students back Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren to be the vice presidential pick for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, a poll suggested.
The poll, released Tuesday and conducted by College Reaction/Axios, showed Warren leading with 28.3%, ahead of California Sen. Kamala Harris with 19.2%. (RELATED: Biden Up 12 Points Against Trump: Fox Poll)
Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate-turned-activist Stacey Abrams was favored by 13.1% of students, while Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was polled just behind her at 11.1%.
Other potential nominees include Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar (8.1%), former National Security Adviser Susan Rice (7.1%), Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms (6.1%), Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth (4%), New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (2%) and Florida Rep. Val Demings (1%).
There has been mounting pressure on Biden to pick a female running mate of color, with many Democratic Party leaders calling for what would be a historic choice. Despite Klobuchar’s favorability, she recently withdrew from consideration to be the vice presidential pick, saying, “I think this is a moment to put a woman of color on that ticket.”
The poll also showed Democratic and Republican students with the same stance on voting in person for the general election, with 60% of students from both parties saying they will vote in person if it is the only option even if coronavirus is still a risk come November. The poll was conducted between June 16 and 17 based on a survey of 854 respondents, with a margin of error of /-3.4 percentage points. It used official college email accounts for authentication and made attempts to mirror the actual demographics of college students across the United States.
