Officials: 86,010 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 5,797 deaths in Mass. | News

BOSTON (WGGB/WSHM) — State officials have released new information in regards to coronavirus cases in the Bay State.

The Mass. Department of Public Health said that as of Sunday, May 17, there were 86,010 confirmed cases in the Bay State, which is 1,077 new cases since Saturday.  

State officials noted that 460,826 people have been tested.

Of those total cases, 5,797 deaths are now being attributed to COVID-19.  That’s 92 more deaths than reported on Saturday.

The county-by-county breakdown of cases is as follows:

  • Barnstable Co. – 1,150
  • Berkshire Co. – 497
  • Bristol Co. – 5,870
  • Dukes Co. – 26
  • Essex Co. – 12,462
  • Franklin Co. – 308
  • Hampden Co. – 5,205
  • Hampshire Co. – 767
  • Middlesex Co. – 19,129
  • Nantucket – 12
  • Norfolk Co. – 7,474
  • Plymouth Co. – 7,064
  • Suffolk Co. – 16,479
  • Worcester Co. – 9,252
  • Unknown – 315

By age group, Mass. DPH reported the following:

  • 19 or younger : 3,431 people
  • 20-29 : 11,037 people
  • 30-39 : 12,725 people
  • 40-49 : 12,380 people
  • 50-59 : 13,887 people
  • 60-69 : 11,419 people
  • 70-79 : 8,018 people
  • 80 and over: 12,860 people
