The Monroe County Health Department issued its latest update on cases of Covid-19 coronavirus this afternoon.

Monroe County now has 29 cases of the novel coronavirus Covid-19. This is a highly contagious virus whose spread has resulted in numerous health alerts, closings and cancellations in Michigan and elsewhere in the U.S. as public health officials try to limit the number of those who are infected at one time.

The statewide chart is updated at 2 p.m. daily, based on numbers reported by late morning. Monroe County has been issuing its report shortly after 3 p.m.

There are now 3,657 cases statewide, including 92 deaths. None of the fatalities are in Monroe County.

The first case was reported in Michigan on March 10; and in Monroe County on March 14. Most of the cases are in the metro Detroit area, including Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

You’ll find the latest numbers, along with the list of executive orders that affect Michigan schools, churches and businesses at www.michigan.com/coronavirus.
